Matemwe Retreat is set in a beautiful location on private land on the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar, right opposite the Mnemba Atoll. It takes approximately 1 hour by car to get to Stone Town and to the airport.

The Retreat is designed for couples looking for privacy combined with luxury and excellent service. The villas are built by local materials, the interior decoration and furniture is made in Zanzibar. The majority of staff is from the neighbouring villages.

Matemwe Retreat is famous for its extraordinary service. Breakfast is served on your private veranda, lunch and dinner preferences will be discussed with the chef every day. Guests can also make use of the facilities of Matemwe’s main lodge next door.

Matemwe Retreat consists of 3 private and spacious villas. Each villa has an air-conditioned bedroom, bathroom with shower and bathtub overlooking the Indian Ocean and a large veranda with an own private cocktail bar. The perfect place for relaxing is the cosy roof terrace which also features a plunge pool and offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, there is a private beach belonging to the villas.

Activities such as diving, snorkelling, sailing, kayaking as well as excursions across the island are on offer at a surcharge. Spa treatments in the privacy of your own villa can also be arranged.
