Matemwe Beach Village lies on the Northeast coast of Zanzibar, about 45 minutes drive from Stone Town, and is probably the ideal place for relaxing like in paradise. Situated in an isolated bay directly at the sandy beach of Matemwe, the guesthouse offers fantastic opportunities not only for those looking for tranquillity but also for diving enthusiasts, as the Mnemba Atoll just off the coast offers world class diving.

Many different kinds of people get together in this small guesthouse and it’s quite usual seeing them chatting about their experiences on their travelled routes through the East African wilderness. The small property is under South African-Tanzanian management and is furnished simply but delightfully in an authentic, stylish and comfortable way creating a unique flair. The service is very personal and due to the size of the guesthouse, it is possible to find a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

Matemwe Beach Village boasts a beautiful garden with exotic plants, a restaurant in the main thatched area with exquisite dishes and a swimming pool. Whether the coffee corner, the cosy lounges, the pool bar or shady beach bandas - there are many places to unwind. Treat yourself with a massage or enjoy a walk along the white sandy beach.

Accommodation is offered in 6 suites and 17 standard rooms. 5 Shumba Suites designed for couples or small families are decorated colourfully and have an upstairs veranda. The Asali Suite, which is separate from the rest of the lodge with its own plunge pool, is very popular with honeymooners. The standard rooms furnished in beach style are more simple but still comfortable.

Half board

Zanzibar’s premier dive operator has a dive centre at the property and therefore diving is the primary activity at Matemwe Beach Village. Excursions to the island’s inland, snorkelling and deep see fishing can be organized at additional costs as well.
