The best things to do in Tanzania
Nature and Safari Activities in Tanzania
Safari, trekking, beach – there are many things to do in Tanzania. What most of them have in common: They take place in Tanzania’s stunning natural spaces. If you’re a nature lover and love the great outdoors, Tanzania has many nature-based activities for you to choose from. Always by your side: Our experienced local guides who not only ensure your safety but are your window to a whole new world.
Romantics will love a classic safari combined with a magical hot-air balloon trip above the waking savannah.
Birdwatching or wildebeest migration safaris are perfect for nature lovers. While the adventurous can opt to do a trek, scuba dive or a guided walk.
Couples, families, and photographers will relish the independence of a private safari. In contrast, an intimate group safari is an authentic experience with like-minded individuals at a reduced price.
Day Trips
Day Trips and short safaris offer you a great taste of Tanzania's natural and cultural world in a short time. You can experience the safari feeling on day safaris to Tarangire or Arusha National Park. On a one-day hike on the Shira Plateau you can get active in Kilimanjaro National Park. Or visit a women's group near Meru to learn about the local way of life. We pick you up from your hotel and take you back again.
Balloon Safaris
Balloon safaris in Tanzania are an experience you will remember for the rest of your life. Rising gently in the twilight to see the sun rise over Tanzania is absolutely magical. Journey silently above the savannahs with the wildlife in action below. After every flight, tradition states that this shared experience will be celebrated with a champagne toast. After bubbles in the bush, you will be driven to the shade of a giant tree to enjoy a delicious breakfast. This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment that can be shared as a couple, family, or group of up to 16 people.
Photo Safaris
Tanzania is an ideal destination for photography as it is home to beautiful landscapes and abundant wildlife. Private Tanzania photo safaris enable you to plan your entire experience. Adapted 4x4 vehicles with large windows, USB chargers, and roof hatches enable you to capture fantastic photos. Moreover, our expert guides can get you to the right place at the right time to compose beautiful images. For wildlife photography, we can recommend parks with fewer visitors and photography hides. For landscape photography, we can suggest the best period to visit for dramatic skies and crisp light.
Migration Safaris
One of the most incredible animal migrations on the planet occurs in Tanzania. During the wildebeest migration, ~1.5 million animals travel clockwise through Tanzania and Kenya in search of fresh grass. The annual migration is at its best from June to October. A migration safari lets you witness this spectacle firsthand in the Serengeti National Park, particularly at the river crossing where giant crocodiles lie in wait. Then, having crossed into Kenya, you follow their journey in the Masai Mara National Reserve. Another highlight is the wildebeest calving season from January to February. Witness the migration, with newborns in tow, in the Southern Serengeti. As a bonus, there are fewer visitors in the park.
Birding Safaris
Tanzania is a paradise for birding safaris. The varied regions, climates, and ecosystems combine to create diverse habitats for hundreds of resident and migratory species. It is also the border between two sets of fauna and flora. Excitingly, you can enjoy your experience without going far. You will be struck by the birdsong as soon as you touch down. On a bird watching safari, you will be accompanied by another bird lover – your guide. Together, seek out the birds and animals you love by tailoring the safari to your preferences.
Honeymoon Safaris
Tanzania is a dream honeymoon destination where you can experience a classic safari followed by a stay in a tropical beach retreat. Private safaris are incredibly romantic. Enhance your experience by boarding a morning hot air balloon safari. Later, relax in a stunning pool to escape the afternoon heat. Then, end your day with an intimate bush dinner for two under a sky full of stars. Every honeymoon we organise is tailored to each couple's preferences. Consequently, you can choose beautiful destinations and incredible activities that are perfect for you.
Private Safaris
For an exceptional time in Tanzania, a private guided safari with a 4x4 offers infinite possibilities. Choose your dates, unique destinations, incredible places to stay and travel companions. During your safari, you are in control of your entire Tanzania experience. You can linger and explore a park for longer or cut an activity short to relax in the pool with your children. Form lifelong memories with the people you love and travel in comfort. Safaris of this type are ideally suited to honeymooners, families, and groups of friends. Photographers and bird lovers will also love the independence of a private safari.
Small Group Safaris
Our Tanzania small group safaris are special because they are limited to a maximum of seven guests. This guarantees you a window seat in our specially adapted 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser. It also allows you to experience an authentic safari with like-minded individuals at a reduced price. Moreover, the safari will still go ahead if only two solo travellers make a booking. We have created several itineraries with fixed dates for you to choose from. You can visit the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and other exceptional parks. See the Big Five in incredible landscapes whilst staying in intimate camps and lodges.
Kilimanjaro Climbs
To reach the summit of Africa’s highest mountain is a dream for many. The good thing: you do not need to be an experienced mountaineer to achieve this goal. However, being physically fit with a solid ambition to reach the top is essential for Kilimanjaro trekking tours. In the company of our highly experienced team, ascend Mount Kilimanjaro during a multi-day adventure. A private trek allows you to select your preferred dates. Alternatively, you can join a small group on a scheduled mountain trek. In both cases, you can choose which route to tackle during this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Mt Meru Climbs
To trek Mount Meru, Africa’s fifth-highest mountain, is a true African adventure. You will likely see giraffes, buffaloes, baboons, colobus monkeys and antelope. However, a park ranger will keep you safe as they accompany you on this volcanic mountain trek. Compared to Mount Kilimanjaro, the benefit of trekking Mount Meru is that there are fewer visitors. Plus, it only takes four days to reach the top and get safely back down again. Although sections of this trail are more technical than those of Mount Kilimanjaro, it is still a good trek for all abilities.
