Over the course of six days, Amaniel guided us from Arusha via Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater, across the Serengeti, all the way to Kogatende.
There simply aren’t enough stars to rate Amaniel—he deserves the entire Milky Way. He was the very best guide and friend we could ever have wished for. He showed us every kind of animal imaginable. From the very first minute, we encountered countless wild animals and learned so much about biology, as well as about plants and the savannah.

He answered every one of our many questions in incredible detail, teaching us countless new things as though we were in the very best biology class. He drove us safely and confidently from Arusha to Tarangire, over the Ngorongoro Crater, through the Serengeti, and on to Kogatende. None of the other drivers drove as courteously and considerately as he did—he is truly remarkable!
We spoke with him in German, English, and French, all of which he speaks fluently. He even taught us a little Chinese! He always seemed to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time, and throughout the trip we shared so many moments of laughter and amazement. He captivated our children with everything we experienced.

We saw baboons, every kind of vulture, secretary birds, marabou storks, various agamas, and countless other birds—and he knew them all! We found ourselves in the middle of herds of giraffes and elephants. We learned so much about gazelles and antelopes and witnessed endless herds of wildebeest and zebras.
We watched leopards sleeping from very close range and saw a cheetah feeding on its prey up close. We observed large prides of lions eating and resting. Finally, we accompanied the great wildebeest herds to the Mara River and experienced the dramatic wildebeest crossing at close quarters—what an unforgettable experience!

We also saw Nile crocodiles, hippos, rock hyraxes, African buffalo, topi, and dik-diks. We were even fortunate enough to see two groups of southern white rhinos and, in the distance, black rhinos.
What a wonderful and truly unique Tanzanian host! Dear Amaniel, we will think of you often, and you will always have a special place in our hearts. Thanks to you, we experienced the greatest wildlife adventure of our lives.
Asante sana, sana!
