Our Safari – and Why It Could Not Have Been More Perfect
From the moment Nelson picked us up at the hotel, we felt that we were in the very best hands. Throughout the entire week, that feeling was not only confirmed but exceeded all of our expectations.
Nelson is far more than just a guide. With his warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly personality, he managed to introduce us to his homeland in a truly special way. His knowledge of nature, wildlife, and plant life is impressive. Every drive, every animal sighting, and every explanation was fascinating, educational, and driven by genuine passion. You can immediately sense how much he loves what he does.
Another major advantage was Nelson’s excellent German. Thanks to this, we were always able to communicate effortlessly and never felt that we were missing anything. At the same time, it was important to him to introduce us to his language and culture as well. With great patience, humour, and enthusiasm, he taught us our first words in Swahili. As a result, the safari became not only an incredible wildlife experience but also a cultural journey that will stay with us for a long time.
We were especially impressed by his ability to spot animals that we would never have noticed ourselves. Thanks to his trained eye and many years of experience, we were able to enjoy countless extraordinary moments. He always took the time to answer our questions and shared his knowledge with great enthusiasm.
We also felt completely safe with him behind the wheel at all times. Whether on rough tracks or remote roads, Nelson drove calmly, confidently, and with foresight. This allowed us to relax and enjoy every minute of the safari.
There is one experience we would particularly like to highlight: On every trip, I keep a diary in which I record our impressions and experiences. Unfortunately, I forgot this diary at the Kati Kati Camp. Nelson immediately took action—making inquiries, organising everything, and doing everything possible to help me get it back. And indeed, a short time later, I was holding my diary in my hands again and was able to finish writing the story of our journey.
Anyone familiar with the distances in Tanzania knows that this is far from a simple matter. We are not talking about “just around the corner,” but about hours of travel and vast distances. This made his dedication all the more impressive. It shows how much heart, responsibility, and humanity Nelson brings to caring for his guests.
This week was an unforgettable experience for us, and Nelson played the biggest part in making it so. By the end of the trip, saying goodbye to him was difficult. To us, he had become much more than a guide—he had become someone we had grown genuinely fond of. His warmth, humour, and passion for his country made this journey something truly special.
One thing is certain for us: if we travel to Tanzania again, it will only be with Nelson by our side. We cannot imagine a better guide. Anyone fortunate enough to go on safari with him will return home with unforgettable memories.
